Place: Doubletree Hotel by Hilton,4727 Concord Pike, Wilmington,DE

We invite you to join us as New Directions Delaware welcomes author Joseph M. Marshall III, as our featured speaker for the annual Drew A. Sopirak Memorial Program. Mr. Marshall will speak on the "Art of Perseverance."

His inspirational stories and insights offer hope and perspective to the journey of recovery. The focus on perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds is a powerful force to help us keep going on the journey towards wellness and recovery.

In Mr. Marshall's words “The strength of a tree, the old ones say, comes not from growing thicker in the good years when there is water, but from staying alive in the bad, dry times.”

Mr. Marshall is an author and professor who has published fourteen nonfiction works, three novels, and has provided technical direction for television and movies. In 2000 he became a Fellow in the Sundance Institute and in 2005 he was the narrator for the mini-series "Into the West." Several of his books have been published in over 10 languages. Mr. Marshall is a widower and has sixteen grandchildren. Currently, he divides his time between the Rosebud Reservation and New Mexico.

Book signing to follow the presentation.
Admission is $5.00. No one will be turned away due to an inability to pay.

The evening is dedicated to the memory of Drew A. Sopirak, an outstanding young man who lived with Bipolar Disorder. New Directions hopes to honor Drew by increasing awareness, fighting stigma, and encouraging hope and wellness for those affected by mental illness. This program is brought to you by New Directions Delaware, a support and educational group for people with Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and their families and friends.
