About New Directions Delaware, Inc.
New Directions Delaware, founded in April 1991 by three people with bipolar disorder (manic depression), is a 501(c)3 non-profit support and educational group serving individuals diagnosed with depression or bipolar disorder, their families and friends. It received assistance in the beginning from three Pennsylvania New Directions support groups in Abington, Warminster, and Levittown. Although fully volunteer and independent, in 2003 it became an affiliated chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA). In 2005, DBSA recognized New Directions with its annual Chapter Service Award. Through support and educational meetings featuring key speakers from the Delaware and regional mental health community, the group teaches its members to manage their illness.
